Es gab schon Clubs vor Sonny Barger.
Zitat von Sonny Barger selbst: ""Harleys are junk, technology wise. If I was not a Hells Angel I would probably be riding a BMW or a Triumph." (Sonny Barger, "The Life and Times of Sonny Barger and the Hell's Angels Motorcycle Club", S65).

Jetzt fährt er selber Victory...
Und hier nochmal eine historische Anekdote:

"I am old enough, and fortunate enough, to have ridden with the Los Angeles Angels in the 1960's. The Angel's President for the Burbank chapter was the late Bob Lawrence. Bob always rode an "Aieral Square Four" but encouraged me to buy a Triumph over a Harley. In the early days English bikes (Limyies) were the predominant bikers motorcycle, Harley's were considered "clunky" and inferior, although there were many of them after the war, and they were cheap. For years the Los Angeles Angels would not wave to any Japanese motorcycle rider, but I, as a Triumph rider, always got a wave.
There were many Triumph's, Beezers and Norton's in the Burbank Angel's club, along with Harley's. As the years grew Harley was acquired by AMF, which produced a real piece of junk; Triumph continued leaking oil, whilst the Japanese bikes successfully addressed all the shortcomings of the American and British motorcycles. The succeeding years were very progressive for the Jap bikes. It appeared as though the British and the American manufactures had fallen asleep.
The original "Outlaw Bikes" were British motorcycles. Honda came along and brilliantly marked a "Motorcycle for Everyone" with the Honda 50. "You meet the nicest people on a Honda". The American's and Brit's were asleep... still leaking oils and unable to adapt to the markets demands. With their marketing savvy, the Japs swept the market. The Brit bikes and Harley Davidson went dead. For many years Harley and the Brit bikes lay dormant. In recent years Harley Davidson did a great job at marketing a new image... "Outlaw for the in-law", "Bolt on Chrome". It worked well. Harley made a fortune off of weekend, yuppie, wanna-bees Hells Angels.
I believe Sonny Barger was speaking the truth, what he believed to be the truth at that time. Myself, I am still riding the best advice I have ever received from a Hell's Angel "Buy a Triumph"
