Off to Deals Gap - Tail of the Dragon

When i arrived on Wednesday evening - I was asking Rich on how he had managed to get a bike for me. I had tried to rent one in Cincinnati but no dealer or EagleRider would rent out a bike. However, Rich told me to bring my stuff, had found some iron for me.

In fact, he had fullfilled his dream and bought himself a brandnew 2014Streetglide Special, and h StreetBob for his son, and a used Softail Deuce cor the other son .... That was a surprise to me ... We spend the rest of the evening in his Garage sitting around the bikes and had a long chat with enough beer to take us up to 2am - it was rainig most of the time- and it got really cold - fingers crossed for the ride !

Thursday Morning ...

Really cold and wet - we had an extensive breakfast and decided to wait until 11am so the rain was moving on eastward. After we had packed the bikes, we embarked to I-75 south and had a dry ride with a little - lets say wet air .. I was riding the Glide - really cool and very different to my 2008 Roadking. Left I-75 onto E25 at Corbin and i changed to the Street Bob - cool bike with a huge fun factor, once you understand where to put your legs

Check out the Yuengling or the Samuel Adams Lager. Two of the better beers if you cannot get good craft beers. Not sure if you can get the Siera Nevada stuff in the SE.

I'm back to Europe from the SW since 3 weeks and alread feel "home"sick Augenzwinkern.

Have a great time!!

We made a stop on Thursday evening in Gatlinburg after stopping at the HD Dealer in Pigeon Forge, the Smokey Mountain HD of Pidgeon Forge. Really great shop and super-friendly people... We rode on into Gatlinburg and stayed in the DaysInn right at the city entrance. The steak at Calhouns was fantastic, the Samuel Adams was cold and enough... We walked back home and smoked a cigar on our porch, looking over river and had some more Samuel Adams... Light out 2am....

320 miles on the first day. Forecast sunny and warm for Friday !

Friday morning - superb sunny weather, and after we had some breakfast at days inn, fueled the bikes had to stop at 'Hillbilly Harley Davidson' in Gatlinburg for a Shirt... The ride across the Great Smokey Mountains was great into Cherokee, and we stopped at Nantahala Outdoor Center on 19W for a coffee, it started to shower...
Luckily the shower stopped after 5 minutes and we continued, but now we got into a real rainstorm and had to stop at a rafting center and hide. We smoked a 'Anit-Rain-Cigar", some other bikers pulled in for a nice chat and after 20 minutes the rain had stopped and the sun was shining again... off we got to 129N, which is a fantastic ride until you hit "Deals Gap". Lots of bikes, trikes, scooters and Cars gather and there is a constant rush onto THE DRAGON....
We took off around 3pm and run the Dragon, it started to rain... At the north end of the Dragon is a large parking lot, we stopped and the rain as well...
So we were riding thenDragon again towards South and DealsGap. Lots of really bad riders made us stop and wait so we could ride with fun... And it was. Fueled the bikes at DealsGap, and rode the Dragon again - I can say this is really fantastic... And an experience I wanted always to make - thanks Rich !

Riding along 129N there is a nice BBQ were we had a sandwich and the continued the 129N, hit I-74N and were riding into London... Another Steak, more Sam Adams... And another 300miles of pure fun !

Saturday morning, woke up at 9am.... Breakfast had already closed... And made us leave early to go some other place.
We took a ride to Frankfort, capital of Kentucky and followed 127N into Cincinnati - a wonderful trip ended in Fishmarket with a dinner, and a scenic ride home. In total we did 800 miles in 3 days, and enjoyed every single one of them!!

On Sunday morning, we do a little local tour before I go back via Chicago to Frankfurt... *sniff*

traurig traurig
